This influencers have some seriously killer style
So often, goth and alternative pages are over saturated with white or white passing influencers. However, there are tons of incredible, talented and beautiful women of color in this community. Black goths, or afrogoths as there commonly referred to, are growing in numbers and thanks to social media, can connect like never before.
The goth subculture can be traced back to the 1980s, with groups like The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division and Bauhaus establishing the sound. However, popular culture frequently excludes the contributions of black and brown artists from rock music and let’s not forget that Goth anthem “I Put a Spell on You,” was written by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, a black man. It’s also important to recognize that a great deal of goth fashion and culture pulls inspiration from the “witchy aesthetic,” which takes inspiration from African and Latinx religions. Today, we see the goth style worn by many black musicians, including City Morgue, Rico Nasty and even Rihanna
It’s time afrogoths got the shine they deserve and thanks to pages like Wiccac, we can finally see the amazing diversity this culture has to offer. Take a peek at 25 of our favorite black goth and alternative influencers, then let us know who you’re following in the comments section on social media.
