Growing up, I remember loving the Archie Comics, especially those featuring Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge. They were the yin and yang of teenager girls and everyone who read the comics identified with one or the other. Today, these comics are having a major resurgence, thanks to shows like “Riverdale” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” And with this revival has come the gals’ punk rock makeover, courtesy of HECREATIVE.
HECREATIVE is a UK based design studio that has created a comic zine called “Riverdale Hardxcore.” They’ve taken inspiration from the classic Archie characters and given them a punk rock spin, complete with band tees and plenty of tattoos. They’ve managed to transport these beloved characters into the 21st century and we’re certain that these teens would have loved rocking out to Black Flag, The Clash and Misfits.
And if that wasn’t badass enough, in addition to creating zines and prints inspired by Archie, HECREATIVE has also released a number of books for kids. With titles like “My Very First Punk ABC Book,” and “Hear Us Roar-A Brief History of Women in Punk,” HECREATIVE can help punk rock parents educate their kids about good music before TikTok intervenes.
HECREATIVE has captured the attention of 75.7k followers on Instagram, as well as many major brands, associations and artists. They’ve worked with Columbia Records, Virgin Holidays, Universal, Jaegermeister and Cannes, to create rockin’ custom art. Recently, they partnered up with MTV to celebrate the VMAS, creating paper doll art for artists like Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Britney Spears.
What do you think of HECREATIVE’s art? Are you a Betty or a Veronica? Are you a punk rock parent looking to save your kids from garbage music? Let us know your thoughts on this story in the comments section on social media.
