We’ve been saying this for decades— fashion trends are cyclical. When a style goes out, it eventually falls back into fashion. A few years ago, we saw all the trends from the 1980s and 1990s coming back in full force. Now, it’s all about the early and mid-2000s trends being reinvented for a new generation. But, with these trends, we’re not only looking to fashion icons such as Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera. No no, we’re talking about the revival of our favorite scene, emo and goth fashion trends.
Believe it or not, many of these trends are back with a vengeance. Don’t believe me? Just look at TikTok! Gen Z is leading the way to make these trends popular again and we’re totally here for it. Take a look at the gallery below to check out 10 scene, emo and goth trends coming back into style and then let us know your favorite trend from this list in the comments section on social media.
Hair Streaks
If you’ve been on TikTok, you’ve likely seen face framing hair streaks everywhere. This was obviously a major trend during the early to mid-2000s, popping up everywhere in music, television and movies. We say, have fun with it. Go for some bold platinum curtain bangs or throw on a fun rainbow color. Why not, right?
Mesh
Mesh has always been on trend, in my opinion. Mesh is perfect for layering, especially during the warmer months. It can take your outfit from boring to badass in a snap.
Fishnets
Similar to mesh, fishnet is perfect for spicing up an outfit. Fishnet is great for tops, dresses, gloves, tights—you name it. And if it rips, who cares!
Platform Boots
If you’ve always wanted a pair of Demonia platform boots, now is your chance. These boots are hot, hot, HOT and they come in more colors and patterns than ever before. Want bat buckles? They’ve got em. Little pumpkins? Yup! Hearts? You betcha!
Band Tees
Bust out the band tees, we know you still have them! Rocking your favorite bands is more hype than ever, especially if they’re emo, scene and goth groups. And yes, Hot Topic still sells these.
Studded Belts
Studded and eyelet belts are the perfect, on trend accessory for any outfit. Again, this is probably an item you have buried deep in your closet and now is the time to bust it out.
Dramatic Eyeliner
Now this is one trend that the 2020s has definitely made better. Today, we have the skills and products to make our graphic liner dreams come true. Be artists, my children!
Corsets
You can thank “Bridgerton,” in part for the revival of this trend. We love adding a corset to a simple outfit and bringing the night into the daytime. Plus, there are so many diverse styles, fabrics and patterns to choose from these days.
PVC
OK, summer may be right around the corner but PVC is coming back. Sure, it’s not the most breathable fabric but damn, does it look cool. And isn’t that what fashion is all about?
Chains
Yet again, you don’t need to get a whole new wardrobe to participate in these trends! Chains, whether they be in a choker, belt or harness are excellent for bringing a simple outfit to the next level. You’re welcome.
